Our Unit Standard 18496: Demonstrate knowledge and skills for driving a forklift on a road for endorsement F   course covers knowledge and skills for driving a forklift on a road for endorsement F (Forklifts). The successful completion of this course allows you to operate a forklift in any area whether or not that area is deemed to be a public road in New Zealand. i.e. any area whether there is public access of not.

Course Pre-requisite:

  • Written and oral English skills equivalent to NCEA Level 1 (Year 11) or an IELTS score of 5.5 or higher
  • Must hold a current Unit Standard 10851
  • NZ Class 1 Full Licence to operate Forklifts with a Gross Laden Weight (GLW) of up to and including 18000kg
  • NZ Class 2 Full Licence to operate Forklifts with a Gross Laden Weight (GLW) of 18001kg and over

Theory; US18496 Demonstrate knowledge and skills for driving a forklift on a road for endorsement F (forklifts) including

  • Describe the legal requirements relating to the driving of a forklift on a road
  • Describe environmental factors affecting the safe driving of a forklift on a road.
  • Describe driving procedures and general considerations for driving a forklift safely on a road.
  • Demonstrate procedures for driving a forklift safely and legally on a road.


Practical: 15min – 20min per person and includes:

  • Pre vehicle safety checks
  • Stacking and de- stacking from 3 different heights
  • The safe operation of the equipment being used
  • Re-fuelling and connecting to battery chargers
  • Safe parking and storage

Practical drives:

All practical drives are completed in accordance with Competenz National Standards as required by NZ Transport Agency guidelines. Upon successful completion of Unit Standard 18496, you will be issued with a NZ Transport Agency Driver Licence and Endorsement Certificate from Know The Rule to take to a NZ Transport Agency Licensing Agency where they will process your application to have the appropriate endorsement added to your Driver licence. The approved NZ Transport Agency Driver Licensing Agent either VTNZ or AA will issue you with a temporary Full Licence until your new Driver licence is issued with your F endorsement applied.

  • If you have a special need, we run Group training courses for companies that have a large number of employees requiring F endorsement training that can be delivered at our training rooms or at yours. If your company has a need for a Group training course then please contact us at your convenience
  • YOU ARE NOT LICENSED TO OPERATE A FORKLIFT TRUCK ON A NEW ZEALAND ROAD WITHOUT A SUPERVISOR UNTIL you have submitted your NZ Transport Agency Certificate to either VTNZ or AA and received your (Temporary) licence that displays the appropriate endorsement (F).
