Course Outline

Course Outline

This course covers the proper use, safety checks, and operation of scissor lifts. It includes both theory and practical components to ensure you are fully prepared to operate the equipment safely and effectively.

Key Training Components:

Safety Pre-Checks

Before operating a scissor lift, it is crucial to conduct thorough safety pre-checks to ensure the equipment is in good working condition. These checks help identify any potential hazards that could compromise safety during operation. Pre-checks include:

  • Visual Inspection: Check for visible damage to the lift, such as cracks, leaks, or structural issues.
  • Battery and Power Systems: Ensure that the lift is fully charged and the power system is functioning properly.
  • Emergency Systems: Test the emergency lowering mechanism and ensure it is operational.
  • Tyres and Stability: Inspect the tyres for wear and ensure the lift is stable and level. Check the ground conditions to ensure safe operation.
  • Controls and Safety Features: Test all controls, safety features, and alarm systems to ensure they are working as expected.

Safe Operation of the Scissor Lift

The course will also cover the best practices for operating a scissor lift safely, including:

  • Understanding the Controls: Learn how to use the lift’s controls, including moving the platform up and down, and navigating the lift in different directions.
  • Working at Height Safety: Always ensure the platform is stable and never exceed the manufacturer’s load limits. Keep your body within the platform while operating and avoid over-reaching.
  • Navigating Obstacles and Hazards: Identify and avoid potential hazards such as overhead power lines, sharp objects, or unstable ground surfaces. Maintain clear communication with other team members when working near the lift.
  • Weather Considerations: Understand the impact of weather conditions on lift stability and operations. Avoid using the lift in windy or wet conditions unless it is specifically rated for such environments.

Safety Post-Checks

After operating the scissor lift, safety post-checks must be performed to ensure the equipment is safely secured and ready for the next use. These checks include:

  • Lowering and Securing the Lift: Ensure the lift platform is lowered to the ground and locked in place.
  • Powering Down: Turn off the machine and disconnect power if applicable.
  • Clean and Inspect: Check for any damage or wear that may have occurred during operation. Clean the lift as necessary to maintain functionality and prolong its lifespan.
  • Documentation: Complete any required inspection logs or reports to confirm that the lift is safe and ready for use again.
